David Orr Golf Blog - Find Out What I've Been Up To

Hi and welcome to my Blog where I'll be updating you on everything about my game from where I'm playing to how I played!  I can promise you that I will include all the details - even the poor shots!

Coaching Update

No matter what level you play at, this game will get us all hooked!

Although I'm still a hugely competitive player, I'm enjoying coaching a whole different variety of players!

Recently I've been coaching some Pros and it's great to get an insight into with what goes on with these players on an individual basis.  I'm very pleased to offer my opinion and a certain degree of clarity and certainty as to what they are doing.

More importantly, now, helping them to make it better!

39 today ....

Well it's my 39th birthday today - it's funny how quickly time passes by but I'm going to make the most of my last year in my 30s!

I had a great day with the family today - a nice morning spent watching my boys at Rugby before heading into town for a browse round the shops - well more like shop - HAMLEYS .... Oh how things change - but great all the same!

It's always nice to top off a good day with some good news from a couple of my pupils - the young, 13 year old, Jamie Stewart who is part of my Development Squad team - not only did he qualify for the Match Play stages of the under 18 Renfrewshire boys, he won both his matches and finds himself in the semi finals next weekend!

Another positive result was from Ronnie Clark whom I saw yesterday to work on wedge play, short game and routines. 69, 75 at Cawder today for a top 5 finish in the Amateur 36 Hole Event!  A good result and great preparation for the Area Team Championships next weekend at Crail!

Archerfield Round Up

I spent a good few hours yesterday with Neil Fenwick working on solid practice then managed to sneak in 9 holes afterwards.  I was -3 on my own ball after 9 which was pleasing - I forgot my putter so had to borrow Neil's ... maybe should think about my putter for the season ahead!!

Can't believe it's STILL raining today - this weather really is grim.  Good job there's an indoor teaching bay at Mearns Academy - a couple of lessons on this morning then it's back home for some family time.

Portpatrick Pro-Am - How Did I Play?

Portpatrick

Firstly, it was great to be back at Portpatrick yesterday - a Pro Am I always thoroughly enjoy.  Secondly, it was great to see the guys again in my team - great chat, good company and some good golf .... an enjoyable day for me and I hope the guys enjoyed it too!

As for my golf, I played pretty solidly again and finished on birdie birdie to shoot -4 which always makes lunch taste better afterwards!  The wind was there of course and it was cold (of course!) but I do need to put in a bit more solid practice on my short game - my wedge distances need a bit of focus!

As for the course - it's in great condition!  Thoroughly recommend a trip down there for a game or 2 - and of course a pint in The Crown!

It's Kids at the Castle Programme for me today - hope the kids come with lots of energy and focus and fingers crossed the rain stays off!!!
